Sinai has a culture rich in history, religion and nature. But its dry mountains and deserts offer poor sustenance to its people. For them, life can be isolated, hard and uncertain. Worst affected are the Bedu, many of whom lack access to all the basic services and employment, and whose lives have been altered by climate change and commercial expansion.

Al mo’assessa-t-al ahliya lijanoub sina’ (the mo'assessa) is a young charity working for the sustainable development of Bedouin communities in South Sinai, Egypt. Its name means in English, the Community Foundation for South Sinai.

The mo’assessa helps to deal with these uncertainties by working towards sustainable development that will have lasting benefits for Bedouin people. It is a small, largely voluntary organization, made up of British, Egyptian and Bedouin collaborators. We share a commitment to sustainable, culturally appropriate and environmentally friendly development, based on sound research wherever possible.
